Policy for The People - February 19, 2025


Although I normally only focus on state policy (laws that will affect the state of Vermont), our federal policy is spiraling out of the control of The People. Federal laws (national...governing all states) are almost always more powerful than anything our state legislators feel like creating.

For this reason, I'm devoting today's spiel to helping you understand the current status of our federal landscape (to put it bluntly: understanding what the hell is going on in the office of Trump and how it may affect your everyday life).

In short, he is working to enforce Project 2025. This is a plan that includes getting rid of many federal departments. It also includes strict immigration policies, cuts to veterans affairs funding, and other decisions that impact underrepresented people. 

Why This Matters: Ultimately, no matter who you are, you will be affected by Project 2025 and the plan to overhaul traditional federal funding. These policies are reaching as far as all medicare/medicaid recipients, all the way down to details like how you may identify yourself. 

What You Can Do: 1) Keep an eye on this Project 2025 tracker (https://www.project2025.observer) to understand where laws are in their process. 2) Write your legislators (state and federal/national) to tell them what is important to you.  3) Peacefully protest when you can (https://www.fiftyfifty.one/). 

These are your rights as an American. If you do not get involved, change will not come and future generations will suffer.

Policy for The People - March 10, 2025

If you have any stake in Vermont’s education system—whether you're a parent, student, educator, bus driver, counselor, cafeteria staff member, school nurse, EMT, or in any other role—you should pay VERY close attention to the following draft bill (DR25-0937) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sQHbSTU1jXnl5TrLKpE0SUtppQPY4Iwc/view.   What’s the Point: This heavy-handed attempt to standardize education in Vermont proposes to do so by imposing harsh changes to current programs such as “school choice”. It's Been a Year.

* (See: It’s Been a Year by Ashley Cooke) * A Formal Introduction   Actually, it has been 1 year, 4 months, and 21 days (or 509 days total) since I wrote, “My Last Plea as a Black Vermonter” begging all of you (Vermonters, legislators, civil servants, and European descendants in general) to consider Black Vermonters in all aspects of our shared social and economic realms.
