Inaugural Address by Gov. Phil Scott

In today’s annual address Governor Phil Scott instilled hope by sharing a message that encouraged legislators to execute their jobs with unity in mind despite party lines. Particularly, I was moved by his idea of creating policy that matches the needs and desires of constituents (AKA everyday voters like us). That led me to think about how I might be considered (or not) when laws and policies are made. One thing that I know for sure is that if policy is lacking in the areas of equity and inclusion, it will not be because they did not hear from me.

I hope I can encourage any underrepresented people within reach of these words to do the same throughout this legislative session. Vermont’s legislators are the lawmakers who dictate rules and regulations that hit closest to home. Are they considering your our community when they create new laws or repeal others?

Reach out to your legislators to share whatever thoughts you have about the propositions that may become law by May of this year. New bills are developing everyday of the session. Your voice is important.
