Policy for The People - January 31, 2025
Today, instead of my usual list of bills I would like to highlight a few ways you can be more involved in Vermont's legislative process if you choose.
1 - Upcoming Events
The legislative homepage (https://legislature.vermont.gov/) always lists "Announcements". These usually include Public Hearings (where you can sign up to share your opinion with legislators), Governor's speeches, and similar events. Events usually have online and in-person options.
2 - Career Opportunities
These are listed on the homepage (https://legislature.vermont.gov/) and updated frequently.
3 - Introduce Yourself
This page (https://legislature.vermont.gov/people/) can help you find your legislators. Find them and tell them what is important to you as an underrepresented constituent.
4 - Introduce Your Family to Democracy
There are often events (https://legislature.vermont.gov/the-state-house/events/farmers-night-concert-series/) and tours (https://statehouse.vermont.gov/tours) of The State House. Visit, greet your legislators, and fully understand how The State House is yours as well.
5 - Involve Our Youth
I started contacting my legislators at a very young age because I knew that's where change happened. I credit that experience with my knowledge of most state legislative processes. Writing a letter or drawing a picture to express support for bills that matter to our youth are great ways to engage a younger audience.
If we each engage in at least one of these processes each year, great change will come.
This is Policy for The People.
