Black History Month - February 11, 2025
Continuing with my Living Legend series, I would like to highlight Vermont's very own state Representative Kevin "Coach" Christie in honor of Black History Month.
Prior to his 2010 election as a Democrat from Vermont's Windsor-4-2 district, Coach Christie had a long, successful, and impactful career. Among his titles are business owner, track coach, football coach, educator, and school administrator. During his time in the field of education, he was named the 1992 Vermont Technical Education Teacher of the Year. He also became Technical Center Director/Principal at the Randolph Technical Career Center, Automotive Service Director, and Therapeutic Case Manager for youth in foster care.
Adding to his professional and legislative experience, Representative Christie's dedication to human rights and equity spans more than forty years; including his current position with the Vermont Human Rights Commission and past leadership roles with the Boys & Girls Club, Special Olympics, and Vermont Symphony Chorus.
Currently, Representative Christie is a ranking member who serves on the House Committee on Judiciary, which covers matters relating to civil rights and civil liberties, the criminal and civil justice systems, violence prevention and public safety, and other similar policies.
If you are reading this, thank you for continuing to pave the way for Black Vermonters, Coach. The flame burns because you continue the fight to keep it alive.
