Black History Month - February 3, 2025
Albeit, under attack: it is Black History Month and I vow to pay respect to a new Black activist on every day of this month. First: Fannie Lou Hamer.
Born and raised in Mississippi, Fannie Lou Hamer was one of the fiercest policy advocates and community organizers of her time (and since). She is most known for her speeches at The Negro Baptist School in Indianola, Mississippi and with Malcolm X at a rally in Harlem, New York. She was also nationally recognized for her Testimony at the Democratic National Convention in 1964.
In a time where all the power I have is found within my own voice, I pay homage to the late but great Fannie Lou Hamer.
