PUBLIC HEARING ALERT - Policy for The People April 15, 2025
PUBLIC HEARING ALERT
The Vermont House Committee on General and Housing will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in Room 10 of the State House on proposed constitutional amendment #3. You may attend in person or virtually. The press release is here. The full proposal in (its current state) is here.
What This Means:
This is a chance for Vermont residents to share our opinions about a proposed amendment to Vermont's constitution. If it passes, this would change the Vermont State Constitution to officially guarantee workers the right to unionize and collectively bargain.
What You Should Know:
Employees in Vermont would have a constitutional right to:
- Join or form a union
- Bargain (negotiate) as a group with their employer over things like pay, hours, and working conditions
- Have a union represent them in negotiations
The state government would not be allowed to pass laws that:
- Weaken or take away this right
- Stop employers and unions from making agreements that require union membership to work at a certain job
How to Participate in the Public Hearing:
To speak during the hearing sign up here before 5pm on Sunday, April 20, 2025.
